Movie theater carpet is arguably the most technically demanding carpet application in commercial flooring. It must perform multiple functions simultaneously that most people never think about.

First, light absorption. In a darkened theater, any reflective surface creates distraction. Theater carpet uses deep, saturated colors — typically dark blues, burgundies, blacks, and charcoals — that absorb light rather than reflect it. Theater carpet layout must account for fixed seating rows, aisle lighting channels, ramp slopes for ADA compliance, and transition zones between the lobby and auditoriums. Each auditorium may have slightly different dimensions and slope angles, requiring custom pattern matching and seam planning.

We work with theater operators on scheduling to minimize screen downtime. Auditoriums can typically be re-carpeted in 1-2 days per screen, allowing the venue to rotate screens out of service while maintaining operations on remaining screens. Our after-hours capability means most work happens between the last showing and the first showing the next day.

For new construction and major renovations, we coordinate with general contractors, AV installers, and seating companies to ensure the carpet installation happens at the right point in the construction sequence. Carpet should go in after overhead work is complete but before fixed seating installation.
