TCX by National Flooring: The Future of Healthy Home Flooring

An in-depth look at the Non-VOC flooring line that's changing the industry. Lab results, real installations, and why we believe in this product.

January 15, 2026 7 min read

When National Flooring first showed me their TCX line, I was skeptical. "Zero-VOC" gets thrown around a lot in this industry, and most of the time it doesn't mean what consumers think it means. But after visiting their manufacturing facility, reviewing their independent lab certifications, and installing TCX in dozens of Colorado homes—including my own—I'm convinced this product is genuinely different. Here is what I've learned.

What Makes TCX Different From Every Other Flooring Line

Most flooring brands focus on the surface—how it looks, how it feels, how scratch-resistant the wear layer is. TCX started from the inside out. Their engineering team asked a fundamentally different question: "What if we built flooring that never released harmful chemicals into the air you breathe?"

Zero-VOC Core

Engineered without formaldehyde, phthalates, or heavy metals in the core material—not just below threshold, but absent.

Commercial-Grade Durability

20+ mil wear layer with ceramic bead coating. Healthy doesn't mean delicate—this flooring outperforms most competitors on scratch and dent resistance.

100% Waterproof

Fully waterproof construction rated for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any room in your home. No moisture worries at altitude.

The Science Behind Zero-VOC Manufacturing

Let me be transparent about what "zero-VOC" means in the flooring world, because there's a lot of misleading marketing out there. The standard test for VOC emissions is CDPH/EHLB Standard Method v1.2 (California Section 01350). Most "low-VOC" flooring just squeaks under the limit. TCX took a different approach.

Independent Lab Results Summary

Formaldehyde Emissions
ND (Not Detected) Limit: 16.5 mcg/m3
Total VOC (TVOC)
< 0.5 mg/m3 Industry avg: 3-8 mg/m3
Phthalate Content
0% Common in vinyl: 5-15%
Heavy Metals (Lead, Cadmium)
ND (Not Detected) Independent lab verified

Test results from independent third-party laboratory testing. "ND" = below detection limits of certified testing equipment.

Real Installation: A Castle Rock Family's Experience

One of our most memorable TCX installations was for the Martinez family in Castle Rock. Their seven-year-old daughter had been dealing with persistent respiratory issues, and their allergist suggested looking at indoor air quality—including their flooring.

"We replaced 1,800 square feet of old carpet and vinyl with TCX throughout our main floor. Within two weeks, we noticed a real difference in air quality. Our daughter's nighttime coughing reduced significantly. We wish we'd done this years ago."

The Martinez Family Castle Rock, CO — TCX installation, November 2025

Their project took three days for the full main floor—living room, kitchen, hallways, and dining area. The click-lock installation meant no adhesive odors, and the family was able to move furniture back in and walk on the floors that same evening. It is one of those installs where the product really proved itself.

How to Get TCX for Your Home

TCX is not available at big-box stores. It's sold exclusively through certified dealers, and we are proud to be a TCX dealer serving the entire Denver metro area. Here are the questions I get most often:

Absolutely. We keep full sample boards of every TCX collection at our Castle Rock showroom. You can also schedule a free shop-at-home appointment and I'll bring samples directly to your house so you can see how they look in your lighting.

TCX is competitively priced with other premium LVP lines like COREtec and Shaw Floorte. You are paying for a better core material and zero-VOC manufacturing, but it is not a luxury surcharge. Most TCX projects come in at $5-$8 per square foot installed, depending on the collection.

Popular colors in the Heritage Oak collection are usually in stock at our distributor and arrive within 5-7 business days. Special orders from the Modern Stone or AquaShield lines typically take 2-3 weeks. I always recommend ordering early so materials can acclimate in your home before installation day.

Yes. All TCX collections are approved for radiant heat up to 85F surface temperature. The zero-VOC core is especially important here—heat accelerates off-gassing in traditional vinyl, but TCX has nothing to off-gas in the first place.

If you're considering TCX for your home, the best first step is a free in-home consultation. I'll bring samples, measure your space, and give you a detailed quote. Request your free estimate here or call me directly at (303) 872-5943.
